- SIMPLICITY!
You want the design to be simple!
You don't want to be assaulted by too much information when you enter a page!
I heard things like: "I want to be able to RELAX when I go online after a day of work"
Or "I don't want to be assaulted by the content"
One way to create this simplicity is to allow SPACE in the layout.
I don'y need to fill the screen with text, pics or navigation features!
SPACE ALLOWED! SPACE IS GOOD!
- EASY NAVIGATION!
That's a key one! Duhhh! 'f course!
You want all the key links to be right there, visible, easy to see!
This is why the SIMPLE design did touch many. It has everything the visitor need to see! Right there.
ZERO confusion!
- PROFESSIONALISM + AESTHETICS
I designed all my sites myself from the beginning.
When asking around some years ago, many people said that the "home made" looks of the site were ok because the content is VERY personal.
So, we stay away from a "corporate" vibe which could be a turn off with my audience.
The wind seems to have shifted now.
Many were VERY excited by the professional look of the black design!
At this stage I am not sure if what you responded to was the fact that it is black, the fact that it looks pro or both. That's something I will check again with you soon.
- ORIGINALITY
Even if I use a standard template, you want the design to be twiked and personalized so that's it's obvious that it is not a simple generic layout simply applied.
- NAVIGATION READABILITY
Of course, readability is not just for the navigation but apparently it matters ESPECIALLY in the navigation.
In the name of AESTHETICS and DESIGN, the readability if sacrificed in the name of something that looks REALLY COOL.
Don't make that mistake! READABILITY scores higher!
- NO ENDLESS SCROLLING DOWN
When publishing in blog forma, I can choose how many entries appear on the page. You said: "NO endless scrolling! It is annoying when a page goes on and on!"
If there is lots of content for one category, it is better to divide the content in videos, audios and articles rather than wanting to show everything in one page!
