I started using a distinction between shadows and soft shadows.

Examples of soft shadows are

• Sadness
• Separation
• Isolation
• Pain
• Insecurity
• Sensitivity
• Depression
• Inactivity
• Abandonment
• Disturbance
• Guilt
• Negativeness
• Victimization
• Mysery
• Impermanence
• Culpability
• Confusion
• Indignation
• Frustration

I use the term soft shadow in contrast with strong shadows like:

• Violence
• Destruction
• Etc

Not sure if this distinction will stick.
